<![CDATA["Chewy" is the Pet of the Month! July 2012 ]]>Sun, 08 Jul 2012 22:43:01 GMThttp://www.centralvavet.com/1/post/2012/07/chewy-is-the-pet-of-the-month-july-2012.htmlPicture
"Chewy" told me that he is SO excited to be the first Pet of the Month!
For those of you that may not know it, "Chewy" is a mixed breed dog that is 13 years old and is Dr Belden's dog that she adopted ~11 years ago.
Chewy was an island dog that lived in a pack on the beach in Grenada, West Indies, where Dr Belden attended veterinary school.
"Chewy" is the perfect dog to start the Pet of the Month because he has always been Dr Belden's #1 patient.
"Chewy" was a wild dog for 1-2 years before he was adopted, so his puppy days were not full of TLC. When Dr Belden took him under her wing, he was Heartworm positive, Ehrlichia positive, extremely emaciated, and had gotten into many fights because he was an intact male (un-neutered). He was immediately treated for the Heartworm disease, Ehrlichiosis, and was neutered as soon as he was a good anesthetic candidate. "Chewy" quickly doubled in size to his ideal body weight and traveled the world at Dr Belden's side.
He is now residing happily in Richmond, VA with his two-legged companions and couldn't be happier.
He receives his monthly heartworm and flea preventions, Dasuquin, Welactin, Denamarin, and Adequan along with acupuncture sessions as needed.
"Chewy" would be happy to answer any questions that you might have about his treatments/supplements and if he can't answer them, he said he could ask his mom...

Dr Courtney Belden was the recipient of this year's KNOWLEDGE AWARD at the 2012 Pets On Parade Gala!!!!
The awesome annual event raises money for Fetch A Cure's Companion in Crisis Program and it was a great success this year!
Dr Belden was so honored to receive this award from her dear friends, colleagues, and clients at Fetch a Cure.

When Dr Belden learned that she would be the recipient of the award, she began to cry... She claims that it was an immediate reaction that stemmed from the very special feeling that comes from being valued and recognized by someone that you respect greatly.

In this case, that "someone" is Fetch a Cure.
Dr Belden has served on the Medical Advisory Board with Fetch for over a year as well as enjoying weekly visits to the office to acupuncture the Fetch mascot, Dudley. She couldn't feel more grateful and fortunate to be involved with such a wonderful organization. The mission of Fetch and the people that make the organization a success are truly one of a kind.

Dr Belden feels so honored and fortunate to be the recipient of this incredible award!!!

It's our One Year Anniversary and We feel so fortunate... this has been the most incredible first year of practice! We have met wonderful people, wonderful animals, and have learned so much about ourselves and our practice of veterinary medicine. We wouldn't have made it this far without the love and support of our clients. You have made this practice what it is today and we can't wait to see how the practice will flourish in the future.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts...

This Friday, I (Dr B) will be traveling to Grenada, WI to teach at my alma mater, St George's University School of Veterinary Medicine. This is such an exciting trip in many ways... Grenada is a stunning island that is near and dear to my heart... this is where I adopted my beloved dog, Chewy and where I spent three years of my life learning about veterinary medicine and about myself.
Being able to spend time with students again is so invigorating and inspirational. I can't wait to see the students that I met last term and also see the fresh faced first-termers:)
It is an honor to be asked back to SGU as a visiting professor!

Dr Belden will be out of the office from 1/20/12-2/2/12. The best way to communicate during that time would be text message, email, or voicemail.

<![CDATA[Happy New Year from CVVA!!!]]>Thu, 05 Jan 2012 17:14:30 GMThttp://www.centralvavet.com/1/post/2012/01/happy-new-year-from-cvva.htmlIt's a brand new year which means we have new year's resolutions! Let's have resolutions for our pets too!
My resolution for my beloved dog, Chewy, is to spend more time with him and take him on longer walks.
This past year has been very busy here at CVVA and Chewy's walks have suffered a bit as a result :( Chewy is 12 years old and still wants to go, so I need to keep him fit and trim and mentally stimulated!
Keeping weight off of him will help him to feel better, will help with any musculoskeltal disease (arthritis), and will help to prevent other diseases like diabetes.
Richmond is a wonderful city for exploring, so I resolve to explore it with my best friend, Chewy :)
What are your new year's resolutions?? ]]>
